Magazine Spread

The Magazine Reboot project was determined to explore grid systems and hierarchy. the goal was to introduce elements and tones that relate and represent the subject matter. When looking for magazine spread inspiration there was a variety of layouts to choose from. I had always seen magazines in the past containing layouts where one large image spans across both pages, being the audience, they came off as eye catching. However, after multiple attempts to achieve this layout it didn’t seem fit enough to represent the subject matter. After continuing to mess around with different grid layouts, the final product consists of clear content and illustration that has successful representation of the assigned context.

After deciding to stray away from an image spanning across both images, the challenge of what the second page was going to contain presented itself. The text was able to fit all on one page leaving creative freedom to the whole second page. Going through the text, it listed some important elements to the context. I decided to explore that list by creating their own illustrations that could catch the eye of the audience. Regarding magazine layouts specifically, its important to limit rags and exclude orphans.
